Raul Fernandez set to get 2024 Aprilia MotoGP bike at Jerez
Raul Fernandez was the only rider in Aprilia’s squad to begin the season with last year’s bike, as Miguel Oliveira received the latest-spec machinery in 2024 following RNF Racing’s acquisition by Trackhouse. Originally planned for the Spanish Grand Prix, Fernandez’s debut on the upgraded RS-GP has been postponed to the Jerez post-race test. It remains uncertain whether he will race with the new bike at the next round in Le Mans on May 12.
Trackhouse team principal Davide Brivio expressed excitement for Fernandez’s home race in Jerez and anticipated further progress after the recent developments in Austin. The team aims to demonstrate its full potential by optimizing performance in all areas throughout the weekend. Following the Sunday race, Fernandez will have the chance to briefly test the 2024 bike during Monday’s post-race session.
The chassis upgrade is the only change, with Fernandez persevering with the 2023 engine for the season, unlike Oliveira and the factory Aprilia riders. Trackhouse’s request for the latest-spec bikes surprised Aprilia, prompting the expansion of the supply to accommodate Fernandez by mid-season. Despite production challenges, Aprilia fulfilled its promise to provide Fernandez with a 2024 bike, showcasing its commitment to the team’s success.
